Home at Last
Well, we are finally home again and very glad to be here! In some ways this ride was much easier, but also much harder than I could have ever expected. I was well trained for the physical challenge, and although extremely tough, I was ready. On the other hand, the emotional part of the ride was much harder than I could have imagined. I met families every day from across this great country dealing...

Home Stretch
It’s been an exciting weekend in the Hoddinott and Vancer households as Terry and Carl cycled through their hometown (London) on Friday. There were lots of hugs exchanged and the guys got to sleep in their own beds for one night, which recharged their batteries and renewed their spirits to carry on to Halifax. They endured the soggy ride to Toronto on Saturday, as both families...

Hello Ontario!
The team has finally landed in Ontario! Needless to say, Terry and Carl (and their families) are very excited that they are nearing their home turf! Carl has asked me to update their blog…easier said than done. During the few minutes that I spent on the phone with Carl and Terry trying to get details, it was hard to sort out what was fictional and what was made up!
On a more serious...
Another update from the Home Support Crew...
Terry and Carl have now completed 3 days of their cross Canada bike ride and are now in Regina! Sounds like they’ve had quite an adventure already with massive mountains to climb, severe heat and winds, very minimal sleep (2 hours the first night), and Terry has been battling some gastrointestinal upset - not a good situation when you’re riding a bike for 10 hours a day! But the guys remain...
An update from the support staff
Just heard from the boys (Carl and Terry) and thought I would do a little update as they are quite tired! They had a very short sleep last night in their bunks and biked quite a grueling day today. Sites were beautiful (“Lake Louise was breath-taking!”) and the support of all the well-wishers has been incredible! Both Terry and Carl had family greeting them in Calgary which gave...

Tomorrow is the big day. We start early tomorrow morning. Beth and Mark from Montreal intoduced us to a song which has the following lyrics: (I will have to get the name of the tune that it needs...
GoogleEarth view of our June 11th "test" ride. →
Ok, some of you know that I’m (Carl) a tech geek at heart. So, I’m going to try something a bit different… If you have Google Earth installed on your computer, you can actually see the route that we do for any given day. Today we had a ride thru Vancouver. So if you click on the above link, google earth should start up and show you the actual route that we did. Very...

Couple of good stories
While we were out on our rides after the past couple of weekends, we had a couple of interesting events. The first one, involves having a full camelbak of Eload dumped on me. The fun part of riding the tandem is that it can be tricky to start, during and even to get off in synch. During one of our starts, it went bad, very bad. We fell pretty good. In fact, I fell on my camelbak and it...

Reflection on our Journey
While on the way home from work, I was reflecting on this whole journey that we’ve been on… the endless biking, fund raising, balancing work, family and did I mention endless biking? I was wondering why am I doing this? Then I saw a child on a bike. I said to myself, that’s exactly it! This is why we are doing it…
you see, a bike is something that most kids look...
Final Strech...
Well, the final strech is upon us… Less than 30 days until leaving for Vancouver!!!! Terry and I have been very busy training, fund raising and being with our families.
I’m taking a forced break in training since my bike seat post bolt broke tonight!!! One of the challenges with riding the tandem is that I have to move my seat post back and forth from the tandem to my regular...

Terry was interviewed on FM97.5 and 1290 today by Viv. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to listen to it, but hear it was a great interview.

Tandem on a trainer. Will it fall over???
Well, over the weekend, Terry and I attended the Multisport Zone mega training day over at the Bob Hayward Y in London. During the spin class, Terry and I were on the tandem indoors on a trainer. At one point after a little break, I tried to mount the bike on the wrong side… The bike, Terry and I almost fell over. It was a close call. It was a great day and we are looking forward for...
